Fire and Ice

I find it interesting that the Twilight movies use literature and poetry to tell their stories. In Eclipse Bella is in the flower-covered field with Edward and is studying for her English final. The poem she reads is Fire and Ice by Robert Frost.

Fire and Ice

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

Robert Frost

Robert Frost wrote this poem in 1923. It is, of course, about opposites. I wonder how Robert Frost would feel to know that his poem is read by a character who will have to choose between two men, one fire and one ice.

  1. I haven't read the books nor seen the movies but that's one of my favorite poems!
